Been a day or two since I got back, been busy getting back into school mode, but I've got a spare minute to continue to log of my trip.
Ok, so where was I....
Oh yeah Whitt's room,
Typical day with Zak in Montreal, he gets up and showers, busts out some serious Calculus bible and focuses in for as long as he has time for before a class or mid-term. Some cereal in the kitchen, where Billy always seems to be! Even in the morning he's just kicking back in the socks and flip flops (correct me if I'm wrong I think he wore socks). His IBM thinkpad working on powerpoints and researching upcoming shows.
The girls on the floor would come in and out as quickly as possible, I'm pretty sure they were afraid of me for most of the week until the last night I was there. I had to have a laugh everytime they came in to the kitchen, looking down avoiding contact with me, I wondered what I might have done wrong? Oh yeah, I whipped my Nikon out when Jenni came down to open the door for me, as I was hammering on the room buzzer at the front door, thinking it was Zak's.. I was sadly mistaken, I think Jenni almost jumped out of her skin when she saw a big lense staring at her through the door. I was trying to snap a shot of Zak coming down to get me, unexpected shot.. Instead I gave the girls at the house more reason to think I'm just an absolutely weird dude, which is cool cause I am. Just not a creep :)
After some kitchen fiascos, it would be time to bounce from the house, on our way down, we'd usually run into Omer, probably the coolest guy in Montreal, Justin's another one we'd see a lot, both of them are bomb.
Justin's always looking to skate somewhere with somebody, I swear if that kid was deprived of both physics and skateboarding at the same time, he'd kill half of the population at McGill.
Omer grew up Beirut, instantly I like this guy, haha just kidding, but really he's sick. When I talked to him I felt like there was an ora of culture that could hardly contain itself. I felt like at any moment I'd feel a rush of culture enter my head and I'd become more worldly than Omer himself.
Whitt's lucky to have such awesome friends living in the house, I can only hope to have people as chill as them at my residence in the future.
So we head out after talking to Omer about some crazy physics that was way over my head.
We walked everywhere, it's easy to get all over Montreal by foot, atleast when you're downtown or at McGill, because it's all so close together.
At this point I'm admiring the interesting fences that seem to be everywhere, they are so pointy. I'm also trying to figure out how I'm going to find Zak after his entire day of mid terms, without my cell phone..
Then we get closer to the McGill buildings, it's really amazing how historic the university is and looks, it doesn't even feel like you're in Canada when you are walking in the heart of the university.
All these pictures with Zak walking with me, are literally just me walking and shooting tons of pictures, I've got the camera glued to my face, punching away at the trigger.
Zak was telling me how it looked like I was his paparazzi, everywhere this guy goes he's got some pro photographer shooting his every move. I had a laugh.
Yeah Zak's got the same backpack as me, I can only imagine how homo we looked walking down the street with the identical backpack. We know we're fresh though, so it was all good.
At this point we had to part ways, I was on my way to Concordia, with almost no clue how to get there and Zak had to put on the big white lab coat to get into his favourite subject Biology!
and so off I go, on another journey through the streets of Montreal, no idea how I'm going to find this place, but it's the journey that I cared about.
People gave me some REALLY dirty looks this day, I guess because I was wearing just a sweater and I was shooting lots of pictures of everything I could find. I got a little carried away, and then I did the worst thing, I walked into a Nikon store with my camera around my neck, oh boy, the looks I got from the staff. Any normal person would have walked in and right back out. I just had to push it, I walked right in between the two guys at the desk, stood there with a confused look on my face, trying to read out the label of a nikon lense. I'm sure they were staring down my D80 with the OLD school manual lense I had on it that I borrowed from Mike.
I proceeded to ask, "So uh, how much is the Nikkor VR 18-200mm Zoom lense right now? Any discounts? I don't want to spend much, just looking for a lense." Of course I knew that the price was clearly in sight, I just did it to piss the guys off. One guy just gave me a stinky eye and told me the price, him and his french accent. Silly man, I replied with "Oh geez, thanks man" and I waddled out of the store, for effect of course, I don't waddle often.
Ok, so I'm approaching the crazy street of St. Catherines, so many people were out that day, and the worst thing about it is that there were twice as many dirty looks to go around on that street. All the tourists pretending like they were from Montreal.
You know where I always GO!
Cool shop, I felt all hypebeast in there, lots Hundreds swagger, and Stussy.
Billy Hot Spot, Mike's dad is probably in there right now doing some work, he's a businessman
HEY! I remember this place, Geopa, Cowman, Beneteau. Yeah good memories in there. If you're with 3 bud's and you survive a few flips in a van off the highway going 80, I'd suggest you stop here for a few days, it's been known to give good recoveries to those in need. Ask Jaimie.
Here's where I got lost, it's self explanatory, I had no idea where this idiot was going and he confused me so much, I lost myself.
Green houses, I'm screwed.
Ok, really how the hell did I end up in Alice's Wonderland, bumble bee bars.. I guess I must be close to Concordia.
Oh would you look at what I found some fellows at the good old Concordia Mr. Sub. Tyler Jay and Scott Turnbull. Great great guys to find in Montreal.
We had a chat about Concordia and their trip to Montreal thus far. They were loving it. Tyler's really got a Montreal style, if he doesn't end up there next year, I'll punch Billy and Mike square in the face at the same time. Then I'll beat them down with an electric fly swatter.
Scotty, the man is set, chillest styles, I felt like he was just lounging, all the time. As if he had a portable lounge that he just chilled in. He chills everybody else around him at the same time.
We found ourselves in a cave, on St. Catherines. Yeah a cave full of Lebanese food, can you imagine? It was unreal, I had shawarma, gluten-free, ya'll know what's good.
The Scott-Meister
There was an escalator to get into the place, an escalator CAVE, it was bloody brilliant, sorry no picture of it, it's too exclusive. You'll have to go there yourself, but I do have the exit, not as exciting, I know Leila's probably loving the shots of her Ty-Ty, that's going to be his new nickname I'm sure.
Back on the road again, to Hyatt Hotel we go!
Scenic route
I want to get a Burger King in every city.
Great wall of Montreal
After all the walking, guess we need a coffee and a tea
Somehow these cool cats got this room for $60 big ones a night, they had bloody cylinder pillows! For 60 bucks, I gel my hair with 60 bucks. Lucky kids.
View from the room
Undeniably cool shot of Scott, look at the lounge look!
Here's some shots I missed,
Oh I have to mention the Ricky Gervais show again, I listened to it religiously all week, it was absolutely hilarious! A great podcast that just made me feel even more relaxed, one day Whitt and I just listened to about an hour or two of it before even getting out of bed, just had the little white ipod speakers blasting Karl Pilkington's absolutely bollocks ideas and thoughts on insects and life. Absolute fool, but I love it, every time he responds to something he sighs and takes so long to answer. Great stuff. Number one podcast in the world.
So it was time to head back to the house to get dinner and meet back up with Zak, the boys were on their way to hang out with a band and watch Lost out on St. Denis. They needed some directions so the Hyatt man helped us out.
I went me own way, headed back down the dark roads, only some lit up by ridiculously named restaraunts..
Until I reach my final destination for the day.
P.S. there is just one more part of my trip to come, I'm working on getting the video up so I can share it here. Thanks for reading if you actually made it through this entire thing.
